I live on a rural island surrounded by ocean, and despite being a part of my every day environment I still film ocean waves compulsively. Sunlight on water is like a fire, its undulating forms infinitely novel despite their repetition.

The Water Body series presents some of these videos at the small scale they were filmed on my phone camera, reflecting on the relationship between novelty and repetition and the limits of representation.

Short looping videos suspend the ocean between stillness and motion. Waves repeat without progressing, held in tightly framed loops. It is only by finite means that something can be said about the infinite.
